Friday Motes, Just Before The Holiday

I read the book: The Nepalese supreme court has ordered the release of the French serial killer Charles Sobhraj, known as “the Serpent”, who preyed on western tourists travelling on the hippy trail in south Asia in the 1970s and was jailed for life for the murder of an American woman. The court ordered on Wednesday that Sobhraj, who is now 78, be released on the basis of his age. His spell behind bars in Delhi was a luxurious one. Sobhraj bribed guards with gems and large sums of money, and gave outrageous interviews to western journalists, in which he would describe his killings and crimes in detail. In 1986, he managed to briefly escape by throwing a party in his “luxury wing”, where he drugged the guards. Police eventually caught up with him in Goa and he was returned to prison. It’s really a very interesting story.

Only certain things are wrong: The city of Buffalo, New York, has filed suit against Beretta, Glock, Remington, Smith & Wesson, and other gun and gun parts manufacturers seven months after an attacker with a Bushmaster AR-15 shot and killed ten innocents in a grocery store. How come these “righteous” folk don’t sue the brewer’s that make the beer or the distilleries that make the whiskey that kills fast (dui deaths, alcohol anger killings) and slowly (liver decease, alcoholism)?  Alcohol and its related illness’ kill 10 or 12 times as many people as guns every year. How come they don’t go after them?

Is he really that stupid: On Tuesday’s “CNN Newsroom,” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) stated that the omnibus spending bill does have “some big emergency numbers” but “much of” those large emergency funds are going overseas, and he doesn’t expect the bill to have “any extraordinary inflationary effect.” So, if the US .gov spends it overseas it doesn’t affect the economy?  Or does he just think the voters are that stupid? Is he really that arrogant?

In a tweet on Sunday, Navajo artist and co-chair of Indigenous Pride Los Angeles, Yuè Begay, denounced Avatar as a “horrible & racist film” that must be boycotted. He/they/it calls for boycotts from Native Americans and indigenous groups for alleged cultural appropriation and for promoting the white savior complex. Okay white people let’s denounce “Wakanda Forever” because there aren’t enough white people in the make-believe African country.  Oh wait, white people can’t complain about anything.

Christmas gift suggestion: Did you know you can buy children’s bullet proof (resistant) school back-packs on Amazon? It’s a sad state of the world that a child needs to wear armored clothing to attend school.

Enjoy the Christmas weekend. Love to all.

Just for shats and giggles?

Just for a laugh.
