Oh, dear gods no: The Nashville Songwriters Association International awarded Taylor Swift the ‘Songwriter-Artist of the Decade’ honors on Tuesday night. In addition to Swift, Ashley Gorley received ‘Songwriter of the Decade.’ Their achievements were announced at the Ryman Auditorium on Tuesday night. The performers list read like a whose-who of “pop-country” which I don’t listen to. Kinda a slap to have it at the heart of country music, The Ryman Auditorium.
There’s hope yet: In Michigan a one-in-a-million “Spirit Bear” has been seen. There are only about 100 spirit bears in the world, according to the North American Bear Center. Most of them live in a couple of islands along the coast of British Columbia in Canada: Princess Royal and Gribbell islands. This month a spirit bear was spotted on a trail camera almost 1,900 miles from the Canadian islands. Spirit bears are a type of black bear, but instead of dark fur they have white or cream-colored fur and nearly white claws. They are not polar bears or albinos; their coloring is down to a different genetic condition. Austin Ayres, wildlife technician with the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Natural Resources Department in Michigan, says “It is a sign of great change.” We can only hope.
The depths of stupid are unfathomable: Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams says, “There is no such thing as a heartbeat at six weeks. It is a manufactured sound designed to convince people that men have the right to take control of a woman’s body.” It can be recalled that Abrams said she supports abortion ‘until the time of birth’ in some cases. She also believes men can get pregnant, George Floyd was a good man, and the world runs on unicorn farts and pixie dust. And she’s an attorney.
Justice not served: Shannon Brandt, 41, admitted to police he hit 18-year-old Cayler Ellingson with his SUV in an alley after an argument regarding politics. Brandt called the police at around 2:30 am on Saturday to report his hit-and-run on Ellingson, whom he claimed was part of a “Republican extremist group.” Brandt’s $50,000 bond was posted on Tuesday, and he walked out of jail a free man. This was just days after Uncle Joe Biden gave his Hitler-ish speech in Philadelphia wailing about the dangers of “extremist MAGA Republicans,”. Any bets on whether the defendant will put the victim on trial because he was a “republican”? I’ve seen higher bonds for parking violations.
But, he’s an orphan: Ryan Grantham, a Canadian actor whose credits include “Riverdale,” “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” and “Supernatural,” has been sentenced to life in prison. The following day, he covered the body with a sheet, surrounded it with lit candles and hung a rosary from the piano, before driving east to Ottawa in a car packed with guns, ammunition and Molotov cocktails. His intention was to kill Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Polls: I say this a lot because it’s worth saying. We are being inundated by pollsters and their “results”. A poll result depends on how the questions are worded and where the questions are asked. A poll will show exactly what the person paying for the poll wants it to show. Always. Like the old cops say, follow the money and see who profits the most.
