Age old morality question: If you found a wallet on the street, what would you do? There’s identification in the wallet so you know who it belongs to. What do you do? Okay, the state deposits $360,000 in your account what do you do? Well, if you’re a 24 y-o man in Japan that had a 4.63 million yen deposited, you cash it out and disappear. The funds were Covid relief funds for Abu, Yamaguchi prefecture. According to a report the man’s name was at the top of the town’s list of account information sent to the bank, which was confused by a formatting issue that led it to believe the money should be transferred to his account first and later distributed to the rest of the townspeople. Once he received the money, the man began to transfer the total sum out of his account in small daily increments to avoid detection. By the time the town authorities caught up with him on April 21, he told them the money was all gone, Asahi Shimbun reported. On May 12, the town filed a lawsuit against the man demanding repayment of the relief funds and any legal fees, SoraNews24 reported. But he had vanished from his home by then, the outlet reported on Sunday. Town residents described the man as “a good boy, young and handsome,”. And now he’s rich, young, and handsome.
Time for a change: Rashida Harbi Tlaib is an American politician and lawyer serving as the U.S. representative for Michigan’s 13th congressional district since 2019. The district includes the western half of Detroit, along with several of its western suburbs and much of the Downriver area. Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib has said she introduced a resolution to recognize the Palestinian Nakba, a term used to describe the forced displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in the lead-up to the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948. Can anyone tell me how this “resolution” benefits or “represents” the people of Detroit? Anyone?
This IS bad: A third of fish and chip shops could be at risk of closure due to food shortages caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, industry leaders have warned. The National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) has called on the Government to “act now” to prevent “long-term damage” to the popular takeaways. NFFF president Andrew Crook told Sky News many of his members think those in power “do not care” about the potential harm his sector faces. A Government spokesperson said it will “continue to speak with the industry body, the National Federation of Fish Friers, and other sector representatives about current pressures they face”. In other words, “We’re looking in to it.”
