Thursday, Motes For Musing

The old bait and switch, again: Democrats are going to roll back all the COVID restrictions and declare victory over the virus just in time for the midterms — and hopefully in time to save them from a red wave. Democratic governors, who shuttered businesses and levied massive fines on those who did not comply, are now rolling them back at long last — and are expecting people to be grateful. Suddenly, natural immunity, so often labeled as “misinformation” by the left, is now in vogue. It’s all just very convenient, isn’t it? Polls show Dems are still competitive with Republicans on COVID, but most Americans are fed up with mask mandates, lockdowns and vaccine passports. So why the roll back? Mid-term elections. Democrats are going to roll back all the COVID restrictions and declare victory over the virus just in time for the midterms, and hopefully in time to save them from a red wave. They hope you, the voter, have a very short-term memory. In fact, they are counting on it. Remember, it’s up to you to remember the past 2 years.

New secret vice (new for me): “boredpanda.com”. Something there for everybody, got stuck today on “mediocre-superheroes-comics”. Giggle snort snort.

Turn the victims into suspects: The San Francisco Police Department routinely uses DNA collected from rape survivors to identify them as suspects in other crimes, District Attorney Chesa Boudin said Monday, a potentially illegal practice that he said threatens to discourage survivors of sexual assault from coming forward. The head of the crime lab confirmed to his office that such searches are done regularly. This would turn the victim into a suspect without any probable cause to seek the dna match.

Breaker 1-9, It’s crunch time: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday activated rarely (never before) used emergency powers in an effort to end protests. Under the Emergencies Act, the government introduced measures intended to cut off protesters’ funding and took steps to reinforce provincial and local law enforcement with federal police. The Canadian Civil Liberties Association said the government had not met the standard for invoking the Emergencies Act, which is intended to deal with threats to “sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.” The Act’s financial measures bring crowdfunding platforms (GiveSendGo) under “terror-finance” oversight, and authorize Canadian banks to freeze accounts suspected of funding the blockades. It can also freeze individual and corporate bank accounts, suspend driver’s licenses, and cancel or suspend vehicle insurance policies. It’s crunch time Truckers. And citizens.

Icehouse hookers: Remember Craig Shubert, the mayor of Hudson? Hudson lies about 30 miles southeast of Cleveland. Last week, Shubert suggested during a city council meeting that allowing ice fishing at a local park could lead to prostitution. Well, he has tendered his resignation from the largely ceremonial post.  Somebody must have slapped him upside the head with a smart towel.

Our multi-level legal system: Terrorist Antifa bomber Garrett Smith was released from Pinellas County Jail last Thursday (without posting bond) on his own recognizance. Smith was seen running away from the Jan. 6, 2022 rally for the political prisoners before he was apprehended by police and caught with a backpack containing a pipe bomb, a gas mask, pepper spray, smoke rockets, and flammable rags. Meanwhile people like former Green Beret Jeremy Brown, still sit in jail. Brown, who was “apprehended” by over 20 fbi agents for the horrible crime of Simple Trespass, has been in custody since Sept. 30, 2021 and denied bail. Brown had committed the grievous crime of refusing to be fed snitch, and went to D.C. on Jan. 6. He did NOT enter the capital, he was NOT armed, and he did NOT assault anyone. Since when does the fbi send 20+ agent to make an arrest for a misdemeanor?
