Just keeps getting worse: Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry escaped an assassination attempt on Saturday during an event celebrating the country’s independence, his office said. Teflon politician: Former N.Y. Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who was disgraced into resigning his office, is starting off the new year with a clean slate. The Manhattan district attorney’s office had closed its probe into the then-governor’s mishandling of nursing homes during the COVID-19 crisis without filing charges. While Cuomo was no doubt still chuffed from dodging responsibility for the elderly patients he killed by government directions, he got yet another boost: Albany County District Attorney David Soares announced he had concluded his investigation of sexual assault allegations against the former governor and is dropping the case. So, where once it appeared Andrew Cuomo would face a day of reckoning for his horrific, deadly decisions and boorish behavior, it now seems he will skate without paying any debt.

Holy Cross closed its Labor and Delivery unit and told pregnant women to go find another place to give birth. A Covid surge has reportedly caused a staffing shortage among the fully vaccinated workers at Holy Cross. Maybe it’s not “the surge” that’s causing the shortage. Maybe it’s short-sightedness. If you fire them., they don’t work.
