Monday Motes and Stuff

Monday

Yes, we put up the Christmas tree.

I don’t agree; Congressional leaders on the House and Senate Armed Services Committees left a measure out of the National Defense Authorization Act that would force women to be drafted into the military alongside men after facing pressure from multiple Republican legislators who opposed the provision. My reasoning is simple, women jeep demanding to be “equal”. All males at the age of 18 must register for “Selective Service” or they “may be” excluded from “certain federal positions”. There is no “Draft” at this time. Probably never will be. Having women register would level the playing field. I just don’t understand women demanding to be “equal”. Why do they want to step back?

In the eye of the beholder: Saudi authorities have conducted their biggest-ever crackdown on beauty contestants that received Botox injections and other artificial touch-ups, the state-run Saudi Press Agency reported Wednesday, with over 40 camels disqualified from the annual pageant. Saudi Arabia’s popular King Abdulaziz Camel Festival invites the breeders of the most beautiful camels to compete for some $66 million in prize money. Botox injections, face lifts and other cosmetic alterations to make the camels more attractive are strictly prohibited. It’s about time. Everybody is tired of seeing these botoxed and facelifted creatures. And the camels are too.

A win is a win: The House of Representatives passed a final version of the 2022 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) Tuesday night which does not contain the red flag law language present in the original. the initial 2022 NDAA legislation passed House with red flag law language applicable to service men and women. The 2022 NDAA contained a provision authorizing military courts to issue orders restraining military personnel from “possessing, receiving, or otherwise accessing a firearm.” This has been deleted. It is a win, of sorts.

And I’m the one with islamophobia: The executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in the San Francisco Bay Area called to “know your enemies” as she blasted Jewish organizations, “Zionist” synagogues, and Hillel campus groups who she accused of betrayal and supporting human rights violations. Speaking against “Zionists,” a term historically used as a euphemism for “Jews” to avoid charges of antisemitism, Billoo called to “oppose the vehement fascists” as well as the “polite Zionists, too,” claiming they “are not your friends.” But, cair is not anti-Semitic. They just don’t like Jews.

Music this weekend included the Belamy Brothers, Kingston Trio, Billy Joe Shavers, Nancy Griffin, and a cd full of “trucker” songs. Ye-yah.
