Wednesday Motes Half-Way There

Update: In a significant move Monday night, the governor of Hawaii ordered the Navy to empty its Red Hill underground fuel storage tanks amid an investigation into tainted drinking water. Petroleum has been found in the Pearl Harbor-Hickam water system’s Red Hill well. The announcement essentially means the state is telling the Navy to shut down its Red Hill facility for an undetermined amount of time ― and potentially permanently. The state has advised the 93,000 customers on the Navy system not to drink the water. These tanks were built in the 1940’s and have been in constant use since. I’ve been on this site, the tanks themselves are an engineering marvel. It is all underground, and really very spooky.

Gonna watch, and record: 1883” starts Dec. 19. Sam Elliot, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Billy Bob Thornton, geeez what a cast. The “prequel” to Yellowstone. Okay, I’m just a sucker for a good western. I hope it is one.

Words you don’t often see together: The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for the summits of Hawaii Island. Forecasters said snow accumulations of 12 inches or more could fall on Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. NWS said winds could also reach over 100 mph. Experts said the strong winds will likely cause significant drifting of snow. I can see the top of Mauna Kea from my home and when it is covered with snow it is something to see. Unfortunately, the driving rain, flooding the rest of the islands, made it a little difficult.

Caught my attention: If you see the headline “Morgue Attendant Arrested After Giving Birth To Deadman’s Baby”, don’t bother reading unless you just want a good laugh. It’s “satire”. Satire is another word for B..S. But I got to admit, it did make me read it.

Interesting conversation overheard: “How ya doing?.” “ Well, I’m not dead yet”. “Okay, it’s early.”

Wish list: A US congressman is under fire for posting a picture of his family smiling and holding guns in front of a Christmas tree days after a deadly school shooting rocked the country. Thomas Massie, a representative for the staunchly Republican state of Kentucky, posted the photo of himself and six members of his family, each grinning and gripping a gun, with the words “Merry Christmas! ps. Santa, please bring ammo.” Okay, maybe the timing could be a little (a lot) better, and maybe a tad insensitive. But if you look closely, all fingers are off the triggers, all weapons are pointed in a safe direction, and all magazine wells were empty.

Why is it always the extra-over-weight guy that looks like a pillow is wearing the “I’m A Ninja” t-shirt?

Rules go both ways: Rep. I. Omar is demanding censure of her fellow representative Boebert for “Islamophobic comments”. The comment? Boebert commented on Omar wearing a hajib in session adding, “Well, she doesn’t have a backpack, we should be fine,’”. To be fair, Ms. Omar has made her share oh comments. She once tweeted that “we have seen unthinkable atrocities committed by the US, Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban”. Lumping the US and Israel with known terrorist groups.  Omar had also stirred controversy with comments attributing pro-Israel sentiment to the financial clout of the pro-Israel lobby. Omar has also lashed out at her Jewish House Democratic colleagues during a CNN interview Tuesday, claiming that they “haven’t been partners in justice.” So, let’s apply the rules to everyone. Even the “squad”.
