Thursday Motes Without Covid-19

It ain’t the news anymore: Monday, as President Trump delivered remarks following his nomination, the “CNN Newsroom” cut away from the speech and criticized him for his “misleading” statements and “outright lies.” After cutting the interview, CNN anchor Anderson Cooper noted Trump went “negative” at the convention after promising to be “positive.” He added the president “falsely” attacked mail-in voting and “falsely” accused Democrats of wanting to shut down the country to hurt the economy and thus hurt him at the ballot box. So instead of reporting the news, Cooper gives his opinion and then decides what’s true or false. I cannot believe Walter Cronkite would have allowed this in his broadcasts.

Term limits, now: There is a reason we should term-limit all political positions. Example, Joe Biden. He was been in politics, since 1973, 47 years. Reports say as late as November 2009, Joe Biden’s net worth was less than $30,000. That’s after being a state and federal senator. Forbes now estimates that he has a net worth of $9 million. Pretty good for eight years earning $230k a year. Of course, he now makes all his money from speaking engagements. That’s a lot of speeches in 3 ½ years.

Not news from Reuters: “Giancarlo Granda says his sexual relationship with the Falwells began when he was 20. He says he had sex with Becki Falwell while Jerry Falwell Jr, head of Liberty University and a staunch supporter of President Trump, looked on.” Can anyone explain to me why the “and a staunch supporter of President Trump” was included? What does that have to do with anything in that headline? The whole story is about Falwell’s hypocrisy. In a claim likely to intensify the controversy surrounding one of the most influential figures in the American Christian conservative movement, a business partner of Jerry Falwell Jr has come forward to say he had a years-long sexual relationship involving Falwell’s wife and the evangelical leader. Just what does that have to do with the President? NOTHING.

Always get a second opinion: Workers at a Detroit funeral home discovered a young woman breathing hours after she was declared dead by paramedics and was sent to the mortuary by her grieving family, authorities say. In fact, she was declared dead twice. Once after 30 minutes of CPR. From now on, I want a second opinion anytime I’m declared dead.

First Amendment: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” “Peaceably assemble”, burning a building, throwing rocks at occupied vehicles, and throwing feces filled “balloons” are not
peaceful under anyone’s definition. There was a reason the amendments were kept short.
