Wednesday Motes of Choice

No, I didn’t watch the Super Bowl, I had no dog in that fight. No I didn’t watch the commercials, I read a good book. I do not have an opinion of the “half time show”. The NFL is all but dead as far as I am concerned. Just not for me.

Let’s make the world safe, from us: Proposed House Bill 2507 would forbid the sale or furnishing of tobacco and tobacco products to persons under 25 of age. The current age is 21. Electronic smoking devices would be included under the proposed legislation. The bill, introduced by Reps. Richard Creagan and John Mizuno. But let’s lower the voting age to 16.Senate Bill 4, introduced by Sens. Stanley Chang and Karl Rhoads, proposes a constitutional amendment that would ask voters if Hawaii’s voting age should be lowered from 18 to 16 for state and local elections. Hey guy’s, how about you stop protecting me from me. There are much bigger problems.

That’ll never happen: I keep hoping a political candidate, any political candidate, would start telling me what he intends to do when elected, instead of just telling me what the other guy is doing wrong. Example is Bloomberg’s Superbowl ad. Or just saying that Trump is evil. Or how white men are destroying America. Just one.

Just how stupid are the people elected? Not too sure, but Adam Schiff has warned that if not impeached, Republicans were setting a precedent that would only encourage Trump to pursue “unacceptable” actions if exonerated. “Trump could offer Alaska to the Russians in exchange for support in the next election,” he said. “Or decide to move to Mar-a-Lago personally and let Jared Kushner run the country, delegating to him the decision whether to go to war.” Huh???? Move along, no fear mongering here. Oh, and evidence for for the little guy.

We’ll catch up:
“Group thefts” have been happening in cities all over. NYC, Detroit, Memphis, and Chicago to name a few, and now they’ve come to Hawaii. A Honolulu store manager is looking for answers after he says his store was victim to a brazen theft perpetrated by a large group of teens. Surveillance footage from Original Grail on Waimanu Street shows sixteen teens shoplifting multiple items. One of the teens is also seen swinging a skateboard at store manager Nicholas Kim when Kim tries to confront the group. Kim says the group was organized and “knew exactly what they were doing.”He says the teens are well-known in the area, and believes them to be students of nearby middle or high schools. Honolulu police have opened up a fourth-degree theft investigation. Now, if I remember my training, taking anything by “force or fear” is a robbery. That would make the theft, by the skateboard swinger, and all the others that participated, a robbery. I guess if you rate it low, nobody asks you to follow up.

Without a doubt the most disgraceful and disrespectful performance by a political figure was Nancy Pelosi’s temper tantrum during the State Of The Union speech. Standing and pointedly tearing up her copy of the speech, like a petulant child breaking his toy so no one else can use it. I wish I could vote against her.

I don’t usually promote “Go Fund Me” . My Big Island friend and good neighbor Neal Peterson has been diagnosed with CMML, Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia. It is a rare but treatable cancer, but treatment is in Seattle. Neal is a good neighbor, always willing to help or just talk story. He is a martial arts instructor of some renounce and has shared his knowledge and secrets to many young people. He even taught me a couple of things. So if you can spare a few bucks, drop by and leave something.
